The Hatfield House at N. 33rd St. and Girard Ave. continues to be a place where creativity and community come together. While the COVID-19 pandemic keeps us from gathering together at this historic house, there are still opportunities to visit safely and experience the power of art in the park. One great example is the portrait of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. that was originally installed in 2021 and will return to the Hatfield House for MLK Day on January 17, 2022.
Measuring at 16 by 13 feet, this portrait is by artist Victor Bunn and is in honor of the enduring life and legacy of the Civil Rights leader. While not from Philadelphia, Dr. King, Jr. left his mark in many places throughout the city, including not far from the Hatfield House. In 1965, during a visit to Philadelphia he attended a rally at Girard College.

About Victor Bunn
Victor Bunn is a graphic artist based in Strawberry Mansion. Victor pursued visual art from a young age, taking summer courses at Moore College of Art and Design as a sixth grader, and later attending Murrell Dobbins Vocational High School and University of the Arts, focusing on animation and digital illustration. Since graduating, Victor has worked in animation, graphic design, illustration, and mobile game design. His work has been featured in the Philadelphia Daily News, the Philadelphia Weekly, the Philadelphia Tribune, and the Google Play store. The one constant in Victor’s career is that he is always working on something and striving for the next plateau.
