Introducing the Lemon Hill Spring Volunteer Series

by Sarah Peterson on March 31, 2026

With Fairmount Park on the world stage this summer, Fairmount Park Conservancy and Comcast NBCUniversal are teaming up with local volunteers this spring to care for the park’s iconic Lemon Hill gateway!

Lemon Hill is one of Fairmount Park’s most recognizable landscapes – and its oldest. Purchased by the city in 1844, it was the birthplace of Fairmount Park and has welcomed generations of Philadelphians as a public space for connections to nature and opportunities for play.

This summer, the grounds will make history again by hosting Philadelphia’s FIFA Fan Festival during the World Cup. Comcast NBCUniversal’s Telemundo is the exclusive Spanish-language home of the tournament in the U.S, with over 700 hours of coverage.

From April 11 to May 9, the Conservancy is organizing the Lemon Hill Spring Volunteer Series––a series of volunteer cleanups at the park’s entryway near Boathouse Row– to remove invasive plants, add flowering shrubs, and prepare this space to welcome thousands of visitors from all over the world.

The series is made possible through the support of Comcast NBCUniversal, which is sponsoring all three public workdays as well as a dedicated employee workday.

Registration for volunteers is now open. No experience is needed. Fairmount Park Conservancy’s staff will provide tools, gloves, and guidance; just bring your enthusiasm, Philly pride, and love for parks!
