After five years of dedicated leadership, Maura McCarthy has informed the Board of Directors of her decision to step down as CEO of Fairmount Park Conservancy. We are deeply grateful for Maura’s commitment, vision, and passion, which have strengthened the organization and elevated our mission to steward and enhance Philadelphia’s parks and public spaces.
Maura’s last day will be October 31. Tim Clair will serve as the Interim CEO after Maura’s departure. Tim served as Chief Operating Officer at the Conservancy for many years, and his experience with the Conservancy will ensure a smooth transition and effective execution of our mission.
Under Maura’s leadership, the Conservancy has made significant strides in capital planning and investment in parks, historic preservation, and community engagement. Her contributions have fostered deeper connections between the city’s parks and its residents, expanding access to green spaces and promoting mental and physical health, all while navigating a world-wide pandemic and the region’s increased use of and engagement in our parks. Her legacy will have a lasting impact on the parks and communities we serve.
We will share updates on the transition process and the search for our next CEO in the coming weeks. As we transition leadership, we are excited about the future and the opportunities to grow, attract new investments, and enhance our innovative programming throughout the city’s vast network of parks and open spaces.
We are grateful for your leadership, Maura, and look forward to finding our next leader who will sustain our momentum and work, and build on all that we have accomplished.
