On October 30, 2019, Justin and Dawn became the final couple to say, “I do,” in LOVE Park at the last Wedding Wednesday ceremony of the year.
A little rain didn’t dampen the celebrations for the two – the wedding at LOVE Park was a surprise for Dawn, who was thrilled to see her family and friends waiting for the couple at the iconic LOVE sculpture by Robert Indiana. Dawn and Justin were one of 10 newlyweds and couples who got married or renewed their vows in LOVE Park this fall as part of the bi-weekly series Wedding Wednesdays presented by David’s Bridal.
Wedding Wednesdays, a program by Fairmount Park Conservancy and Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, hosted its first ceremonies last year following the grand reopening of LOVE Park. From spring through the fall, couples who receive their marriage certificate at City Hall now have the option to hold their 30-minute ceremony at LOVE Park, one of the most iconic public spaces in Philadelphia. Officiants from Journeys of the Heart and a special Wedding Wednesday cart filled with David’s Bridal photo props are provided, as well.
For many of the couples who got married this year, LOVE Park holds a special place in their hearts. Rhonda and Sandy visited the LOVE sculpture on their second date, while Clio and Sudhir said they chose the park for the wedding to celebrate their urban and international heritage – Clio grew up on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and said the flags on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway were the perfect backdrops for their “I dos.”
