5 ways to give back to Philly’s parks this holiday season

by Melissa Romero on November 27, 2018

With the holiday season officially in full swing, chances are you might be thinking of ways to give back. If you love Philly’s parks but are at a loss on how to show your support, consider this your guide. Here are five ways to support Philadelphia’s parks system and the Conservancy’s work to bring parks to life, from participating in our #GivingTuesday campaign with none other than Connor Barwin to something as simple as gifting a comfy Conservancy sweatshirt to your favorite park champion. Thank you so much for your support!

1. Double your donation on #GivingTuesday with Connor Barwin!

For Giving Tuesday (today!) Connor Barwin has pledged to match up to $5,000 in donations to Fairmount Park Conservancy. He has recently joined Fairmount Park Conservancy’s Board of Directors and is encouraging park supporters to make their gifts to Philly’s parks today! Donate through our website or via PayPal or Facebook.

Update: Thank you to all who donated to our Giving Tuesday campaign! Our park champions raised $6,556. Combined with Connor Barwin’s pledge, our Giving Tuesday campaign raised a total of $11,556 to support Philly’s parks!

2. Experience The Present at Christmas Village at LOVE Park

Notice anything bright and shiny at the Christmas Village this year? Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and Fairmount Park Conservancy have partnered to bring “The Present”– a new, interactive holiday attraction – to the recently renovated LOVE Park. At The Present, parkgoers can make a donation by text to one of three local causes, including Fairmount Park Conservancy! To support Philly’s parks, text PARKS to 501501 to donate $5 to Fairmount Park Conservancy. Bank of America will match donations up to $5,000!

3. Give the gift of membership to Fairmount Park Conservancy

Getting someone a unique, experiential gift this holiday season is just a few clicks away. From membership to a cozy sweatshirt, we’ve got some great gifts that give back to Philly’s parks. For delivery by December 23rd, please place your order by December 17th. To order a gift membership, fill out this form and select “I would like this to be a gift” under Additional Information.

4. Support our annual appeal

Over the last year, we worked with over 4,100 volunteers, built 5,400 linear feet of sustainable trail, and made investments of $1,800,000 into our parks and historic structures. You can make a commitment to Philadelphia’s parks and the Conservancy’s work by making a tax-deductible gift to our annual campaign here. Spread the word by sharing our new video with friends and family!

5. Lend a hand at your neighborhood park

Save the Date: The next citywide Love Your Park Service Day is in May 2019! Don’t want to wait that long to show some love for your park? Join us and Philadelphia Parks & Recreation for monthly volunteer cleanups throughout the year: The next one is Saturday, December 8th at Cobbs Creek Park. Register here.
