Celebrate Día de los Muertos in FDR Park!

Fairmount Park Conservancy is excited to celebrate Día de los Muertos with three upcoming events in FDR Park! All events are free. 

Wednesday, October 30 | Community Art Workshop with Cesar Viveros (Adults Only) 

Join artist Cesar Viveros at FDR Park on Wednesday, October 30 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. to help prepare the Día de los Muertos ofrenda (altar) for Friday night’s Gran Fiesta de los Muertos.

This is a free, drop-in workshop so come anytime between the hours listed above to meet the artist, to learn more about Día de los Muertos and Mexican cultural traditions, and to help construct the art installation. Complimentary drinks and snacks will be available. This event is for adults only.

Friday, November 1 | Gran Fiesta de los Muertos
This event is an opportunity to celebrate and learn about Mexico’s popular Día de los Muertos holiday. On Friday, November 1 from 6 to 9 p.m., stop by the FDR Park Boathouse for: 

*Cesar will be constructing a large art installation on the steps of the boathouse in honor of the holiday. This art installation will remain up throughout the weekend so if you aren’t able to make it out to the event, please stop by the FDR Park Boathouse before November 4 to see the piece.

Saturday, November 2 | Day of the Dead Celebration: Making Music with Miss Cat

Join Fairmount Park Conservancy and Miss Cat of Mister John’s Music for an interactive, family-friendly program at the Anna C. Verna Playground in FDR Park on Saturday, November 2 from 12 to 2 p.m..

Sing, dance, and even learn to play a new instrument in this bilingual musical program celebrating the popular Día de los Muertos holiday. There will be two programs, each roughly 45 minutes in length. Feel free to stop in anytime.

Friday, November 1 – Monday, November 4 | Public Art Installation

Cesar Viveros will be constructing a large art installation in the form of an ofrenda (altar) on the steps of FDR Park’s Boathouse in honor of the holiday. This art installation will remain up throughout the weekend so if you aren’t able to make it out to the event, please stop by the FDR Park Boathouse before November 4 to see the piece.
