Love Your Park Fall Weekend 2023 Recap

by Grace Romo on November 17, 2023

This year’s Love Your Park Fall Weekend was a huge success! The citywide celebration brought together over 1,750 hard-working volunteers to clean up and care for over 100 Philly parks from November 10-12. Across the city, over 477 trash bags were collected, over 1880 brown bags of leaves were composted, and about 300 trees were planted, along with 1,550 flower bulbs!

Love Your Park city wide cleanups take place twice a year in partnership with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, Fairmount Park Conservancy, and the Park Friends Network. The Park Friends Network, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, is made up of 140 Park Friends Groups that volunteer to help keep our Philly parks clean, beautiful, and inviting spaces year-round.

This fall, Wissinoming in Northeast Philadelphia served as the signature site for Love Your Park Fall Weekend 2023. Over 100 volunteers joined Fairmount Park Conservancy, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, and the Friends of Wissinoming to help prepare the park for winter by planting trees and flower bulbs, raking leaves, mulching, sweeping, and picking up trash. In honor of Veterans Day, the signature site event began with a formal opening by the 56th Stryker Brigade Combat Team Color Guard and the National Anthem sung by Wilbur Childs.

Thank you to all the committed volunteers in Philly who came out to love their park. Check out some photo highlights below!
