Join Fairmount Park Conservancy and Fair Amount Food Forest for a garden tour and herbal workshop in East Fairmount Park on Saturday, August 8 from 10 AM–12 PM.
First, we’ll take a tour of the Fair Amount Food Forest, a community-based, publicly-accessible, and educational food forest garden located outside Woodford Mansion in Fairmount Park. Attendees can then participate in a workshop discussing the harvesting, preparation, and safe use of summer herbs found throughout the Food Forest.
TICKETS: Free**, donations appreciated. Registration is required.
**We are proud to be able to offer these events for free. However, there is limited capacity for all of our hikes. Last-minute cancellations and no-shows can take away tickets from others. We ask that you be mindful of this and please only register if you plan to attend.
2026 SECOND SATURDAY GUIDED HIKE SCHEDULE
Please continue to check back as additional topics will be added soon. Second Saturday hikes are April-November.
- June 13 from 10 AM-12 PM: Tree Tour with Andrew Kirkpatrick, meeting at Ohio House
- July 11 from 10 AM-12 PM: Birdwatching Walk with Troy Bynum of TB Wildlife Photography LLC, meeting at Ohio House
- August 8 from 10 AM-12 PM: Fair Amount Food Forest Tour and Workshop, meeting at Boxers’ Trail Gateway
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:
- Each hike is roughly two miles over a combination of hilly dirt trails and flat gravel paths.* (*Exception: August’s program will include prolonged standing with minimal walking compared to our other hikes)
- Hikes are appropriate for adults and mature adolescents*
- Please dress according to weather conditions and wear good hiking shoes (boots/sneakers).
- Bring water (drinking water is not available in the park) and a snack.
- Unfortunately, there are no bathrooms along the hike route so please plan accordingly.
- Although this is a series, the hikes are not dependent on one another. Sign up for just one or for more than one!
- We will leave a few minutes after the scheduled start time. Please arrive at the departure location at least five minutes early. We cannot guarantee that latecomers can join after the group has departed.
- Space is limited in each hike, and registration is required. If you cannot attend an event, please show courtesy to fellow parkgoers and try to cancel your registration with advance notice so that someone else can participate.
- Important pre-event information and any event updates are sent out via email. Please make sure the email address entered is correct and that you check it before coming out to the event.
PARKING/GETTING THERE: There is plenty of free parking available in the area. As always, never leave valuables in your car! If traveling by public transit, the nearest station is at Ridge Ave and Dauphin Street – about a 2-3 minute walk. The nearest Indego bike station is at 33rd and Dauphin.
