Join us on MLK Day to help remove invasive species and pick up trash in East Fairmount Park.
Join Fairmount Park Conservancy and The Discovery Center on Monday, January 19, from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM for a volunteer workday celebrating the MLK Day of Service in East Fairmount Park.
Together, we will work on removing invasive species and trash pick-up. Depending on volunteer turnout, we may split into smaller groups to work at nearby locations.
We will provide all the tools, supplies, and materials for the workday, including gloves.
EVENT TIMELINE:
9:00 AM – Volunteer check-in
9:10 AM – Project overview & tool safety
9:20 AM – Begin workday
11:45 AM – Wrap-up workday
12:00 PM – Big thank you & group photo!

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:
- In general, please wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. We strongly recommend wearing long pants that cover your ankles and long sleeves to protect your arms.
- Sturdy, closed-toe shoes like boots or sneakers are required (no ballet flats, flip-flops, or sandals).
- Volunteers are also required to wear gloves while working. Gloves will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own.
- We will provide bug spray, sunblock, hand sanitizer, and wipes.
- You may also want to consider wearing a hat or sunglasses.
- Please bring a reusable water bottle. We will provide jugs for refilling. We will also provide snacks.

PARKING/GETTING THERE:
- Look for the green Fairmount Park Conservancy tent on-site
- There is plenty of free parking available. As always, NEVER leave valuables in your car!
- There are no bike racks, but we can keep your bike with us to keep an eye on it.
In the event of severe weather conditions, the event will be canceled and attendees will be notified.
