Celebrate Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) with Fairmount Park Conservancy and artist Cesar Viveros at FDR Park’s Gateway Plaza on Saturday, October 24 from 5–8 PM.

Experience and learn about Mexico’s popular Día de los Muertos holiday with dance and musical performances, face painting, and a stunning art installation at the park’s pedestrian entrance. Enjoy tasty food from FDR Park’s Latino Market and explore a selection of handcrafted goods being sold by vendors from the Mercado de Latinas. Music provided by DJ Valentin Flores of Dance Philly.

ABOUT CESAR VIVEROS: Cesar Viveros Herrera has spent 27 years creating public art in the United States and his native Mexico. Cesar has worked with many Philadelphia art organizations, including Mural Arts and the Fleisher Art Memorial. His public work has been inspired by the communities he has served throughout the years, to whom he has become the extended voice of their particular ideology, recurring primarily on documentary work that helped him to visually articulate these individual stories to be exposed to a broader audience. Aztec dances and ceremonies, miniature altars, sculptures, fresco paintings, mosaics, and feather work are some signature elements of his work outside murals.

-Friday, October 23–Monday, October 26: Art installation by Cesar Viveros up at FDR Park Gateway Plaza — Guests are welcome to stop by and view the piece (Please note: Due to an Eagles game on October 26, there is paid parking at FDR Park. You can still walk into the park though.)

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO:

• There will be bathrooms (porta-potties) available nearby.
• There will be food vendors at the event. The type of payment method varies by vendor. We recommend bringing both cash and card (Venmo, Cash App, and Zelle are also popular payment methods).
• Minors should be accompanied by an adult.
• Bring water and bug spray.
• Important pre-event information and any event updates are sent out via email. Please make sure the email address entered is correct and that you check it before coming out to the event. 

PARKING/GETTING THERE: *NEW this year*: The event will be held at the Gateway Plaza, located within FDR Park at the corner of Broad and Pattison. Here’s how to get there and where to park. 

• Driving + Parking: Enter via Pattison Ave near Broad Street and follow signs for parking. Multiple lots are available throughout FDR Park. Just look for the “P” markers on the map. From there, it’s a short walk to the event. 

• Event Location: Gran Fiesta de los Muertos takes place at Gateway Plaza (marked by the red star on the map). Head toward the Broad Street entrance and follow pathways to the plaza. 

• Exiting: When you’re heading out, follow the loop road back toward the exit at 20th & Pattison Ave. 

As always, never leave valuables in your car! If using public transit, use SEPTA to travel to Broad Street Line’s NRG Station (last stop). The Gateway Plaza is directly across the street from the station (a two-minute walk). The nearest Indego bike station is at Broad and Pattison.

Disfruta de comida deliciosa del Mercado Latino de FDR Park y explora una selección de productos artesanales a la venta por parte de los vendedores del Mercado de Latinas. Música proporcionada por DJ Valentin Flores de Dance Philly.

ACERCA DEL ARTISTA: César Viveros Herrera ha pasado 27 años creando arte público en los Estados Unidos y su natal México. César ha trabajado con muchas organizaciones de arte de Filadelfia, incluidas Mural Arts y Fleisher Art Memorial. Su trabajo público se ha inspirado en las comunidades a las que ha servido a lo largo de los años, para quienes se ha convertido en la voz extendida de su ideología particular, recurriendo principalmente al trabajo documental que lo ayudó a articular visualmente estas historias individuales para exponerlas a un público más amplio. • Habrá camiones de comida en cada evento, aceptando dinero en efectivo y tarjeta / Venmo. 

• Siéntase libre de traer su propia comida y bebida. 

• Los menores deben ir acompañados de un adulto. 

• Llevar agua y repelente de insectos. 

ESTACIONAMIENTO/CÓMO LLEGAR: Aquí te contamos cómo llegar y dónde estacionar: 

• Cómo llegar y estacionamiento: Entra por Pattison Ave cerca de Broad Street y sigue las señales hacia el estacionamiento. Hay varios lotes disponibles en todo FDR Park. Busca los marcadores “P” en el mapa. Desde allí, es un corto paseo hasta el evento. 

• Ubicación del evento: Gran Fiesta de los Muertos tendrá lugar en Gateway Plaza (marcado con la estrella roja en el mapa). Dirígete hacia la entrada de Broad Street y sigue los caminos hasta la plaza. 

• Salida: Al salir, sigue la carretera circular de regreso hacia la salida en 20th & Pattison Ave.
