This spring, lace up your sneakers and join Fairmount Park Conservancy for a new guided run series along West Fairmount Park’s historic Trolley Trail.
We’re teaming up with local run clubs to offer a free 4.5-mile trail run that combines movement, community, and history. Whether you’re training for an upcoming race, looking to meet fellow runners, or hoping to explore new trails, this series is the perfect midweek adventure.
Explore the Trolley Trail
The Trolley Trail loosely follows the route of the old Fairmount Park Trolley, which operated from 1896 to 1946. Runners will learn from Conservancy staff about the past and present of this evolving trail corridor, including remnants of the former trolley network that still exist today.
In partnership with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and the Belmont Plateau Trails Alliance, the Conservancy has been working to develop the Trolley Trail as a scenic multi-purpose route through West Fairmount Park. Since the trail’s ribbon-cutting in 2023 we have also added new gateways, trail signage, and bike racks.
The Trolley Trail has been honored twice by Philadelphia Magazine’s “Best of Philly” awards. If you’ve been meaning to check it out, here’s your chance!
What to Expect
- Location: Upper parking lot across from Belmont Mansion (Belmont Plateau)
- Distance: 4.5 miles
- Terrain: Hilly, mostly singletrack trails
- Pace: Multiple pace groups available; participants should be comfortable maintaining at least a 15-minute mile on trails
- Water provided after the run
Each run will be led by Conservancy staff in partnership with a local run club (varies monthly; more to be announced soon). No membership is required and everyone is welcome. Join the series to connect with fellow runners and experience West Fairmount Park in a new way!

- Wednesday, April 1 | 5:45 – 7:15 PM
- Wednesday, May 6 | 6:00 – 7:30 PM
- Wednesday, June 3 | 6:00 – 7:30 PM (Global Running Day)
