Senior Director of Civic Initiatives
Jennifer Mahar joined the Conservancy staff in September 2012 and helps to oversee the ‘Reimagining the Civic Commons’ project – an innovative, collaborative network of public space organizations in Philadelphia. Together, the collective will demonstrate the ways that civic assets can be elevated and connected as an integrated, sustainable system and how they can be designed and developed to foster talent, opportunity and engagement.
Jennifer oversees the Neighborhood Parks Stewardship Program in partnership with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and a network of 100 volunteer park friend groups. With the partners, she organizes LOVE Your Park Week, a spring volunteer effort and celebration of Philadelphia’s parks and LOVE Your Park Fall, a citywide park service initiative. Jennifer manages the regrant program, quarterly meetings, conferences and tours that serve and empower the park group network. In addition, she oversees community engagement for more than $20 million in capital improvement projects. Jennifer serves as the Conservancy’s liaison to Parks & Recreation programs such as PowerCorps PHL and the Ecosystem Management Team. She also oversees the Conservancy’s Corporate Stewardship Program.
Jennifer loves all of Philly’s parks but especially enjoys running around Penn Treaty Park in Fishtown and savoring delicious beer at The Oval in the summer. She loves to travel and has spent time in parks in India, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Poland.
