Strutting with Seniors on Boathouse Row

by Sara Hirschler on October 14, 2016

On a beautiful sunny morning in October, staff from Fairmount Park Conservancy helped out at the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging’s 4th annual Senior Strut, a health event for seniors with a mile-walk followed by a health and wellness fair at Lloyd Hall. With DJ Patty Pat playing some upbeat oldies and line dance favorites, hundreds of seniors got their groove on with warm ups and  dancing before being led down Boathouse Row by mummers for their mile-loop walk. At the event, the American Planning Association presented its Great Places Award to Fairmount Park which was accepted by our Executive Director and Kathryn Ott Lovell, Commissioner of Philadelphia Parks & Recreation.

At the health fair that followed, Fairmount Park Conservancy distributed copies of our 50 Unique Experiences in Fairmount Park map along with information about upcoming events in the park. This event is always an inspiring reminder of how much seniors enjoy getting out and about in Fairmount Park and what an important resource it is for their health and wellness. We can’t wait for next year’s Senior Strut!
