NEW! CHESTNUT HILL LOOP: Sunday, June 10th from 10:30am – 1:30pm.
Meets at Chestnut Hill West Train Station.
Ride the rail and hit the trail. We’ll begin this hike at Chestnut Hill West train station and walk 10 minutes through the highest elevation in Philadelphia on our way to the Lavender Trail. From there, we’ll descend into the Wissahickon Valley and follow the creek it’s named for along rugged hiking trails to Valley Green Inn. After a short break (and maybe an ice cream cone), we’ll turn around and follow Forbidden Drive, the 2018 Pennsylvania Trail of the Year, past a centuries-old dam and an ancient drinking fountain on our way back to Chestnut Hill. Riding the train is strongly encouraged – SEPTA’s Chestnut Hill West Line drops you off at the beginning of the hike. The 23, 77, and L buses also stop here. If you drive, the Chestnut Hill Parking Foundation’s purple lot is the closest to the station. You might also find street parking on Hilltop Road.
Fairmount Park Conservancy offers opportunities to get into the woods and discover some of the hidden gems of our park system with a wonderful hike leader, Brad Maule. Enjoy unique hikes through exciting parts of the park you may have not explored before. Please note that these are moderately challenging hikes and we strongly encourage the use of proper hiking shoes and packing yourself plenty of water and snacks for the journey!
