“Sounds of the Season” at the Historic Houses in Fairmount Park

Join us as the historic houses, presented by WRTI, ring in “A Very Philly Christmas” with some of the best jazz, classical, gospel, and latin music in Philadelphia.  Enjoy all these wondrous sounds while taking in the beauty of the houses decorated for the holidays.

Participating historic houses include: Cedar Grove, Historic Strawberry Mansion, Laurel Hill Mansion, Lemon Hill Mansion, Mount Pleasant, and Woodford Mansion. All houses are located within East and West Fairmount Park in Philadelphia.

Morning  (10:00 am – 12:30 pm)  

Lemon Hill: Bernard Samuels Trio – jazz piano trio with bass & drums

Mount Pleasant: Sounds of the Season Singers Showcase:
10:30 – 11:45: The Quintave Singers, all-male choral group

Laurel Hill: Mary Roth – classical dulcimer

Woodford: Ministers of Apollo – 18th cent. duet-harpsichord & vocals

Historic Strawberry Mansion: V. Shane Frederick-solo jazz piano

Cedar Grove: soloists from Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra
Meet & greet with WRTI classical host Debra Lew Harder

Afternoon (1:00-3:30 pm)  

Lemon Hill: Pablo Batista (percussion) & his Holiday Celebration – Latin jazz quartet

Mount Pleasant: Sounds of the Season Singers Showcase:
12 – 12:45: Opera Philadelphia performs selections from Handel’s Messiah
1:00 – 3:45: Shamika Byrd and band

Laurel Hill: Larry Tamanini (guitar) & his jazz trio

Woodford: Rob Curto (accordion) & Fish Harmonics- original roots music

Historic Strawberry Mansion: Mary Roth – classical solo-dulcimer

Cedar Grove: Julian Hartwell (piano) and his jazz trio
