About Jefferson Square Park:
Jefferson Square Park is one of South Philadelphia’s favorite parks, located right over the border from Queen Village leading into Pennsport. Three sides of the park are surrounded by South Philly residential row homes and the north side is bordered by Washington Avenue. It was established in the 19th century and used during he Civil War by the Union Army as an encampment site. Afterwards the park was reconstructed using the Rittenhouse Square Park plans. The park’s granite retaining walls and pillars are identical to those installed at the same time in Rittenhouse Square.
