Join us on Father’s Day for a free Juneteeth celebration at historic Hatfield – the big white house at 33rd and Girard! Bring your lawn chair or picnic blanket and enjoy live DJ music, kid-friendly activities and games, face-painting, and prize giveaways. Enjoy refreshments including pretzels and water ice. Plus wood sculpture, painting, and dance demonstrations from local artists.
June 19th is Juneteenth, which commemorates and honors the end of slavery in the U.S. On June 19th, 1865 (two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation), Union soldiers landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the Civil War had ended and that the enslaved were free.
This event is hosted in partnership with the Strawberry Mansion Civic Association, Mothers In Charge, and Net Community Care.
