For the first time in our organization’s history, we’re entering a team in the 15th Annual Independence Dragon Boat Regatta (IDBR), the nation’s biggest competition of its kind! Hosted by the Philadelphia Dragon Boat Association on Saturday, June 4, 2022, IDBR features 90 teams racing on the Schuylkill River in three heats of 500 Meters each (Qualifying, Semi-Final, and Final).

Limited spots remain to join our boat of “Park Champions” who will be going for the gold! At the very least, you’ll have a blast paddling with a friendly group of passionate park people!

JOIN THE TEAM > GET A T-SHIRT!
All team members will receive a complimentary Fairmount Park Conservancy t-shirt so you can show your park pride! John Sigmund, your Team Captain, will follow up to get your size.

PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT! In order to participate, you MUST be able to attend at least one practice session on 5/17, 5/24 or 5/31 from 6 – 7 pm. Of course we would prefer you to be there for all three so the Park Champions can live up to our name! Team captain John Sigmund and Coach Suzie will follow up with more details about Tuesday practice sessions.

TICKET PRICES: $100

FAQ:
Why this price? This price covers registration for the race itself, but also includes 3 one hour practice sessions on 5/17, 5/24 and 5/31. A small portion of the entry fee raises funds for the Fairmount Park Conservancy. The rest benefits IBDR chosen charities, including: the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz Memorial Fund and The Liberty USO of PA and Southern NJ.

Do I need dragon boating experience? No experience necessary! However you must attend at least one practice (preferably more) on 5/17, 5/24 or 5/31 in order to compete on June 4.

Is this race for a specific age or gender? No! It’s a coed team and ALL are welcome! Similar to canoeing, dragon boat paddling requires moderate arm & upper body exertion.

Where do we go between races? Can we stay and watch when we’re done? Yes! Our team will have a reserved space along the river to watch and relax between our races. We’ll have a pop-up tent and food for an all-day tailgate!

Is parking available? Yes, there is a parking lot near the course that requires parking passes. Your team captain will follow up with details after you’ve registered

I’ve registered, but I’m not sure that I can attend the race. What should I do? First of all, we ask that you register for this event only if you’re confident you can attend at least one practice and be there on race day. However, if unexpected circumstances come up, we can issue a full refund if you notify us at least 14 days from race day. If it’s any sooner, you cannot receive a refund and we ask that you find a friend or family member to replace you.
