On the day of John Coltrane’s birth, this Jazz Walk will feature a stroll from Mander Recreation Center at 33rd and Diamond Streets down to the historic Hatfield House at 33rd and Girard Avenue.

Date

Saturday, September 23, 2017

Time

4:00pm - 7:30pm

Location

Mander Playground
2140 N 33rd St
Philadelphia, 19121

Along the way, the strollers will encounter a number of saxophone ensembles who will share their musical tributes to John Coltrane and join in on the stroll. Inspired by the second line tradition of West Africa and New Orleans, where mourners are transformed into celebrants, this Vigil solemnly and jubilantly celebrates John Coltrane’s 91st Birthday. The event closes with a concert by the Odean Pope Quartet at the historic HatField House.

Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a blanket, or a lawn chair.
